Natural Science Group develops supplements for dogs and cats the same way human nutraceuticals are developed: start with actives that have peer-reviewed evidence behind them, formulate to doses the research supports, and manufacture in the UK to GMP standard. We sell the results through our own consumer brands — including AniVatio, founded by our co-founder Lisa Hilton — and we build products for vets, retailers and brands through our white-label and co-development programmes.
What we formulate for dogs and cats
Companion animal owners increasingly expect what they expect from their own supplements: a label that says what is in the product, why it is there, and at what dose. Our companion range covers the categories where the evidence base is strongest:
- Joint and mobility support — actives such as collagen peptides, glucosamine, chondroitin and omega-3 fatty acids, studied for their role in supporting joint comfort and normal cartilage function in ageing and active dogs.
- Gut and digestive health — pre- and probiotic formulations and fibre blends designed to support digestive balance and stool quality.
- Skin and coat — essential fatty acid and micronutrient formulations that support normal skin condition and coat quality.
- Calming and behaviour support — research-backed botanicals and amino acids formulated to support calm behaviour in stressful situations such as travel, fireworks and separation.
- Senior and life-stage nutrition — formulations adjusted for the changing nutritional needs of puppies, adults and older animals.
Every formulation is built from our library of actives, each selected on the strength of published research, and delivered in formats animals will actually take — soft chews, gels, powders and liquids. Palatability matters as much as potency: a supplement a dog refuses is a supplement that does nothing.
How a companion product is developed
Our process runs from bench to bowl and is described in full on our formulation and manufacturing pages. In brief:
- Evidence review. We start with the published literature — what has been studied in dogs and cats, at what dose, with what outcome.
- Formulation. Our formulators build the product around those doses, balancing stability, palatability and format.
- Testing. Where a claim warrants it, we design placebo-controlled studies with veterinary principal investigators — see how our trials work.
- Manufacture. Production runs in the UK to GMP standard, with the same documentation discipline used for human supplements.
Why human-nutraceutical standards matter for pets
The companion supplement market is crowded, and the difference between products is rarely visible on the shelf. It sits in the sourcing of actives, the accuracy of doses, the stability of the finished product and the honesty of the label. Our founding team spent decades in human-grade supplement formulation and manufacturing before turning to animal health, and we hold pet products to the same standard — because a dose claim that would not survive scrutiny in human nutrition should not survive it in a pet aisle either.
That standard is also a commercial position. Veterinary professionals recommend products they can interrogate; retailers back brands that can substantiate what they say. Building on evidence from the start makes both conversations easier.
Our own brands, and yours
We are unusual in doing both sides of the market. We build and run our own direct-to-consumer companion brands, which keeps us close to what owners actually buy, dose and reorder. And we put the same formulation library, trial capability and UK manufacturing behind partners: a veterinary group that wants its own clinical range, a retailer that wants a private-label line it can stand behind, or a founder with a brand and no formulation team. If that is you, start with our partnerships page.
Frequently asked questions
Does Natural Science Group make supplements for dogs and cats?
Yes. Companion animals are one of our four sectors. We formulate, trial and manufacture supplements for dogs and cats in the UK, sell them through our own brands including AniVatio, and develop white-label products for vets, retailers and other brands.
What kinds of companion supplements does NSG develop?
Joint and mobility, gut and digestive health, skin and coat, calming and behaviour support, and life-stage formulations, delivered as soft chews, gels, powders and liquids. Each is formulated from actives selected on the strength of peer-reviewed research.
Where are the products made?
In the United Kingdom, to GMP standard, with the same documentation and quality discipline used in human-grade supplement manufacturing.
Can a vet practice or retailer get its own branded range?
Yes. Our white-label and co-development programmes cover formulation, testing, manufacture and supply, so a practice or retailer can carry a range built on our science under its own brand. Partnership conversations start via our enquiry form.
Are the products tested on animals?
Our products are for animals, and testing means feeding studies and clinical trials of the kind used in veterinary nutrition — designed with veterinary principal investigators and run under the welfare standards set out in our Commitment to Animals. We do not conduct or commission testing that harms animals.
